The film stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui as a man who has spent years locked away in solitary confinement. He escapes to Mumbai with plans of torching buildings after his release only to find he must now hunt down the people who put him there. It features Vikram Gokhale, Tabu and Radhika Apte amongst others. The film is produced by Phantom Films. The film was released on 10 August 2017.. Nawaz and Vikram Bhatt met Anurag Kashyap and Sharat Katariya, who were working on the screenplay of "Masquerade". They asked them to carve a complete horror story out of an existing script. The trio then made a film titled "Phoonk", which was shot in 48 hours in Romania, and features American actor Gabriel Chirolea. On 25 July 2017 it was announced that acclaimed music composer Amit Trivedi will be composing the music for Phoonk. The movie released on 10 August. The film received mixed reviews from critics.
